Kim Il Sung was the dictator of North Korea during the Korean war. He led Guerrilla forces against the Japanese before becoming the leader of North Korea. During the cold war, Kim Il Sung wanted to turn Korea into a communist country under his control. Kim became more aggressive when the USSR agreed to help North Korea take over South Korea. In 1953, Kim finally agreed to an armistice. Douglas MacArthur commanded All American forces during the Korean war until he was relieved of his duties by Harry S. Truman in April 1951. Truman was the president of the United States of America during the Korean war. Harry S. Truman relieved General Douglas MacArthur of his duties during the Korean war. Mao Zedong was a Chinese communist revolutionary and founding father of the People's Republic of China, which he governed as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from its establishment in 1949. He sent the Chinese military into the war after the UN invaded North Korea.
